My Fat Fendered Friends

It was the summer of "94" that I was smitten by streetrod fever. A friend from work took me to the Goodguys Pacific Northwest Nationals in Puyallup, Washington. That’s all it took. I sold my 71 Chevy short box and began looking in earnest for something to build. A guy behind the counter at our local NAPA store told me about a 39 Chevy coupe that belonged to the owner of a autobody shop in town. I thought that if it belonged to an autobody man that it was probably in pretty good shape. Boy was I wrong! I bought it for $500 dollars. When I left he said "Ill see you 30 years and $30,000 dollars later! I laughed at the time but soon found out what he meant.

I was bound and determined to do all of the work myself. I thought I knew a lot about cars. It didn’t take long to find out that I really didn’t know as much as I thought I did. But I learned. I learned to weld, I learned about suspensions and I learned how to track down missing parts.

Now, 6 years later, all of my efforts are finally starting to pay off. She turns quite a few heads!
The interior is not finished yet but, I’m a long way from those days of pulling dents and cutting rust.
Now when I look at somebody’s car at a show or rodrun, I can appreciate the time and effort that was put into it.
Well, gotta go put another coat of paint on that trim ring.
See you at the next show and shine !
